Weather brought an unexpected visitor to Aruba on April 1, 2026, when the Celebrity Silhouette (Celebrity Cruises) made an unscheduled call at Oranjestad. The 2011-built ship is the fourth member of Celebrity’s five-ship Solstice Class and is especially recognizable for the real grass Lawn Club covering part of her upper deck.
Entering service in 2011, Celebrity Silhouette is the fourth of Celebrity Cruises’ five Solstice-class ships. Built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, the ship expanded on the class’s contemporary design while introducing several new outdoor spaces, including the Lawn Club Grill alongside the class’s signature real grass Lawn Club.

History and Features
Construction and Entry Into Service:
Celebrity Silhouette was built by Meyer Werft at its Papenburg shipyard in Germany.
She was the fourth ship constructed for Celebrity’s Solstice Class, following Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Equinox, and Celebrity Eclipse.
The ship was completed and delivered to Celebrity Cruises in July 2011.
Her maiden voyage departed from Hamburg on July 23, 2011.
At more than 122,000 gross tons, she was among Celebrity’s largest ships when she entered service.
Celebrity Reflection followed in 2012 as the fifth and final ship of the class.
Design and Features:
Celebrity Silhouette continued the modern design introduced with Celebrity Solstice in 2008.
The Lawn Club features real grass on the ship’s upper deck, one of the most unusual features introduced aboard the Solstice Class.
Celebrity Silhouette added the Lawn Club Grill, an outdoor specialty restaurant overlooking the lawn.
The Grand Foyer forms the central interior gathering space and connects several levels of restaurants, lounges, and entertainment venues.
The Solarium provides an enclosed adults-oriented pool and relaxation area.
Other major spaces include the Celebrity Theater, Martini Bar, Sunset Bar, Persian Garden, spa, and multiple specialty restaurants.
Large expanses of exterior glass and balconies are important elements of the Solstice-class design.
Service:
Since entering service, Celebrity Silhouette has operated cruises in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and other regions.
European seasons have included cruises from ports such as Southampton and Amsterdam.
Caribbean deployments have frequently operated from Florida during the winter months.
Passenger service was suspended during the worldwide cruise shutdown in 2020, with the ship later returning to regular Celebrity Cruises operations.
On April 1, 2026, Celebrity Silhouette made an unscheduled visit to Oranjestad, Aruba, because of weather conditions affecting her planned itinerary.
The Aruba call was therefore not part of the ship’s originally published schedule for that voyage.
As of September 2026, Celebrity Silhouette remains in active service with Celebrity Cruises.
2020 Refurbishment:
Celebrity Silhouette completed a major refurbishment in early 2020 as part of Celebrity Cruises’ fleet modernization program.
The project included redesigned accommodations and updates to numerous public spaces.
The Retreat was expanded for suite passengers with upgraded private areas.
Restaurants, lounges, and other passenger facilities also received updates.
The refurbishment helped bring the 2011-built ship closer to the design standards introduced aboard Celebrity’s newer vessels.
Solstice Class:
The Solstice Class began with Celebrity Solstice in 2008.
Celebrity Equinox followed in 2009, Celebrity Eclipse in 2010, Celebrity Silhouette in 2011, and Celebrity Reflection in 2012.
The ships introduced a new generation of design for Celebrity Cruises and were considerably larger than the line’s earlier vessels.
Their signature Lawn Clubs brought real grass to the upper decks of a cruise ship.
The class also emphasized large balconies, extensive glass, contemporary interiors, and a broad selection of restaurants and lounges.
All five ships remain an important part of the Celebrity Cruises fleet.
Legacy:
Celebrity Silhouette represents an important period in the development of Celebrity Cruises and the expansion of the successful Solstice Class.
Her Lawn Club remains one of the most recognizable features of the class.
