CELEBRITY SILHOUETTE

July 30, 2024 | Molde, Norway

Celebrity Silhouette was in Molde, Norway, on July 30, 2024, during a seven-night Norwegian fjords cruise from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The Solstice-class ship was photographed during our cruise aboard Holland America Line’s Rotterdam. Her own itinerary included Molde, Olden, Ålesund and Stavanger before returning to the Netherlands on August 4.

Celebrity Silhouette was photographed in Molde, Norway, on July 30, 2024, during our cruise aboard Holland America Line’s Rotterdam. The Celebrity Cruises ship was making her first scheduled Norwegian port call on a seven-night voyage that had departed Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on July 28. After Molde, her published itinerary continued to Olden, Ålesund and Stavanger before returning to the Netherlands on August 4. The two ships brought separate cruise itineraries together in the same Norwegian port.

Delivered by Meyer Werft in July 2011, Celebrity Silhouette was the fourth ship in Celebrity’s five-ship Solstice class. Her design combined extensive balcony accommodation with a tall central atrium, broad public spaces and the outdoor Lawn Club that had become a signature of the series. By the time of these photographs, she had been sailing for thirteen years and had undergone a substantial modernization through the Celebrity Revolution program in 2020.

Molde provided a setting closely associated with summer cruising in Norway. Located beside the Romsdalsfjord, the town is known for its rose gardens and the mountain panorama across the water. Its position connects a compact town center with a much wider landscape of fjords, islands and mountains. These photographs show Celebrity Silhouette during the Norwegian part of her summer 2024 deployment, while preserving another ship encounter from our own Rotterdam cruise.

History and Features

Construction and Delivery:

  • Celebrity Silhouette was built by Meyer Werft in Germany as part of Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice-class expansion.

  • The shipyard delivered her to Celebrity Cruises at Eemshaven in the Netherlands on July 18, 2011.

  • Delivery preceded her naming ceremony in Hamburg on July 21, separating the formal handover from the celebrations surrounding her introduction.

  • Her maiden voyage began on July 23, 2011, starting a passenger-service career that was thirteen years old when these photographs were taken.

Development of the Solstice Class:

  • Celebrity Silhouette followed Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Eclipse as the fourth ship in the series.

  • Celebrity Reflection subsequently completed the five-ship class with a somewhat larger version of the design.

  • The class established a recognizable combination of balcony-lined accommodation, substantial glass surfaces and open upper-deck spaces.

  • Building several related ships allowed Celebrity to develop a consistent shipboard layout while introducing individual differences between vessels.

Design and Accommodation:

  • Extensive outside accommodation was a central feature of the design, giving a large proportion of cabins access to daylight and sea views.

  • Rows of private balconies formed much of the ship’s profile, with sections of the superstructure set back from the hull.

  • A central atrium extending through twelve decks provided an interior focal point, served by panoramic elevators.

  • The design brought together large enclosed public rooms and outdoor areas suitable for a range of climates and cruise itineraries.

The Lawn Club and Public Spaces:

  • The Lawn Club carried forward the Solstice-class idea of a real grass area on a cruise ship’s upper decks.

  • Celebrity Silhouette introduced the Lawn Club Grill, adding outdoor dining beside this distinctive part of the ship.

  • The Porch provided another dining venue associated with the upper-deck layout.

  • These spaces gave the ship an individual identity within a class whose overall arrangement was already familiar to Celebrity passengers.

The 2020 Celebrity Revolution:

  • Celebrity Silhouette completed a 42-day modernization in February 2020 as part of the Celebrity Revolution program.

  • Work included refreshed staterooms and suites, updated furnishings and changes to a number of shared spaces.

  • The Retreat introduced an expanded suite experience, including a dedicated lounge and sundeck.

  • Craft Social joined the ship’s venues, while additional accommodation included two Sunset Suites and four inside staterooms.

The July 2024 Norwegian Fjords Cruise:

  • The seven-night itinerary began in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on July 28, followed by a day at sea.

  • Molde was scheduled for July 30, with a published call from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • The following calls were scheduled for Olden on July 31, Ålesund on August 1 and Stavanger on August 2.

  • A final sea day preceded the scheduled return to Rotterdam on August 4, completing the round trip.

Molde and the Romsdalsfjord:

  • Molde lies beside the Romsdalsfjord in western Norway, with mountains forming a major part of its setting.

  • The town’s association with roses has featured in tourism promotion for more than a century.

  • Its well-known panorama encompasses a broad sweep of mountain peaks across the fjord.

  • Cruise passengers can reach the town center from the harbor, making Molde a call that combines local exploration with the surrounding fjord landscape.

July 30, 2024 — During Our Rotterdam Cruise:

  • These photographs show Celebrity Silhouette in Molde during our cruise aboard Rotterdam.

  • The gallery features a ship encountered during our holiday rather than a cruise we took aboard Celebrity Silhouette.

  • Her Norwegian itinerary placed Molde at the beginning of four consecutive scheduled port days along the coast.

  • The photographs bring together the ship’s Solstice-class design and the setting of a Norwegian summer cruise.

  • OLP Social: Photographed during our Rotterdam cruise, this Molde call brought a Solstice class ship to Norway’s Romsdalsfjord during the summer 2024 season.

  • OLP Social 2: Built by Meyer Werft in Germany, she began her maiden voyage in July 2011 as the fourth Solstice class ship, thirteen years before these photographs.

  • OLP Social 3: At 1,047 feet long and 122,400 gross tons, this Solstice class ship carries around 2,900 guests at double occupancy, combining size with extensive sea views.

  • OLP Social 4: A seven night Norwegian fjords cruise from Rotterdam included Molde, Olden, Ålesund and Stavanger, bringing four Norwegian ports into one summer itinerary.
