Ovation of the Seas (Royal Caribbean International) sails from the Port of Los Angeles on July 18, 2025, beginning another voyage from Southern California. Entering service in 2016, the Quantum-class ship is easily recognized by the North Star observation capsule rising above her upper decks.
Entering service in 2016, Ovation of the Seas is the third member of Royal Caribbean International’s Quantum Class. Built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, the ship combines large indoor entertainment spaces with distinctive attractions including the North Star observation capsule, RipCord by iFLY, and the SeaPlex.

Construction and Entry Into Service:
Ovation of the Seas was built by Meyer Werft at its Papenburg shipyard in Germany.
She followed Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas as the third ship in Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class.
The ship was delivered to Royal Caribbean in April 2016.
Her maiden voyage departed Southampton on April 14, 2016.
Following her initial European voyages, the ship repositioned to Asia and began operating from China.
Design and Features:
The North Star is one of the ship’s most recognizable features. The glass observation capsule is carried above the ship by a large mechanical arm.
RipCord by iFLY provides a skydiving-style experience inside a vertical wind tunnel.
SeaPlex is a large indoor activity complex that can accommodate bumper cars, sports, games, and other activities.
Two70 combines panoramic windows at the stern with entertainment technology, projection systems, and robotic screens.
The ship also features multiple pools, a covered Solarium, FlowRider surf simulator, rock-climbing wall, theater, spa, restaurants, bars, and lounges.
Extensive indoor spaces make the Quantum Class particularly well suited for cruising in destinations with cooler or unpredictable weather.
Service:
Ovation of the Seas began her career with deployments in Asia and Australia.
Sydney became an important seasonal homeport, with the ship operating cruises to Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.
The ship later became a regular part of Royal Caribbean’s Alaska program, sailing primarily from Seattle during the summer.
Her deployments have also included Hawaii and repositioning voyages across the Pacific.
In 2025, Royal Caribbean introduced Ovation of the Seas to Los Angeles for a season of cruises from the Port of Los Angeles.
The deployment brought one of Royal Caribbean’s large Quantum-class ships to Southern California for cruises to Mexico and the Pacific Coast.
As of September 2026, Ovation of the Seas remains in active service with Royal Caribbean International.
Los Angeles 2025:
Ovation of the Seas arrived in Southern California in 2025 for a new series of cruises from Los Angeles.
The ship operated from the World Cruise Center at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro.
Cruises from Los Angeles included voyages along the Mexican Riviera and shorter cruises to destinations in Baja California.
The deployment represented a significant increase in Royal Caribbean capacity from the Los Angeles market.
On July 18, 2025, Ovation of the Seas sailed from the Port of Los Angeles during this Southern California deployment.
Quantum Class:
Royal Caribbean introduced the Quantum Class with Quantum of the Seas in 2014.
