History and Features
Construction and Entry Into Service:
Navigator of the Seas was built at the Turku shipyard in Finland and entered service with Royal Caribbean in 2002.
She was the fourth member of the Voyager Class, following Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, and Adventure of the Seas.
Mariner of the Seas completed the five-ship class in 2003.
The Voyager Class introduced several features that were groundbreaking for cruise ships at the time, including the Royal Promenade and an onboard ice-skating rink.
Design and Features:
The Royal Promenade forms a multi-level interior street through the center of the ship with shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment.
Studio B contains an ice-skating rink used for skating shows and other activities.
Outdoor attractions include a rock-climbing wall, pools, sports facilities, and waterslides.
The ship also features an adults-only Solarium, theater, casino, numerous restaurants, and several lounges.
A major 2019 modernization added new attractions and extensively updated the ship’s public spaces.
The refurbishment introduced The Blaster aqua coaster and Riptide, a headfirst mat racer extending over the side of the ship.
Service:
Navigator of the Seas has operated cruises throughout the Caribbean, Europe, and the Pacific during her career.
Following her 2019 modernization, the ship spent several years operating short cruises from Miami.
Royal Caribbean later repositioned her to Southern California, where she began sailing from Los Angeles in 2021.
Her West Coast itineraries have included Baja California and longer Mexican Riviera cruises.
The ship has become a regular presence at the World Cruise Center in San Pedro.
As of September 2026, Navigator of the Seas remains in active Royal Caribbean service from Los Angeles.
September 18, 2026 Sailing:

The first call was Ensenada on September 19.
Following a day at sea, the ship visited Cabo San Lucas on September 21.
Mazatlán followed on September 22.
Two days at sea completed the northbound return to Southern California.
Navigator of the Seas returned to Los Angeles on the morning of September 25.
Voyager Class:
Royal Caribbean’s Voyager Class consists of Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, and Mariner of the Seas.
The five ships entered service between 1999 and 2003.
Their Royal Promenades, ice-skating rinks, large atriums, and extensive recreational facilities represented a major change in cruise ship design.
Navigator of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas incorporated refinements to the original Voyager-class design.
Legacy:
Navigator of the Seas represents an important generation in the development of Royal Caribbean’s large resort-style cruise ships.
Features pioneered by the Voyager Class influenced later Freedom-, Oasis-, and Icon-class vessels.
Her extensive 2019 modernization has allowed the ship to continue evolving more than two decades after entering service.
Since arriving on the West Coast in 2021, Navigator of the Seas has become closely associated with Royal Caribbean’s year-round cruise program from Los Angeles.
OLP Social: The ship departed San Pedro for a seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise, with visits to Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlán before returning to Southern California.
