History and Features
Launch and Design:
Launched in 1998, Carnival Elation was the seventh Fantasy Class vessel built for Carnival Cruise Line. Her godmother was Shari Arison, daughter of Carnival founder Ted Arison. As the first cruise ship powered by Azipod propulsion, she represented a major step forward in maneuverability and fuel efficiency.
Design and Style:
Designed by Carnival’s longtime architect Joe Farcus, Elation’s interiors are vibrant and theatrical, inspired by the theme of “ecstasy and emotion.” Bold colors, playful lighting, and whimsical motifs create a festive onboard atmosphere, reflecting Carnival’s trademark style of fun and energy.
Service and Voyages:
Throughout her career, Carnival Elation has offered cruises from ports including Los Angeles, San Diego, and later Mobile, Alabama. Her itineraries have ranged from short Baja Mexico getaways to Western Caribbean voyages.
Refits and Upgrades:
2009: Minor refresh of public spaces.
2017: Fun Ship 2.0 refit, adding Guy’s Burger Joint, RedFrog Rum Bar, and BlueIguana Cantina.
2020: Additional updates to staterooms and public areas.
Legacy:
More than two decades after her debut, Carnival Elation continues to sail as a beloved part of Carnival’s fleet. Her San Diego years remain a fond memory for many West Coast cruisers who experienced the classic “Fun Ship” charm before her transition to the Gulf of Mexico.
