CRYSTAL SERENITY
January 11, 2026 | Los Angeles, California
Crystal Serenity (Crystal) was in Los Angeles on January 11, 2026, at the beginning of her 135-night World Cruise. The voyage would take the ship across the Pacific, through Asia and the Middle East, and into the Mediterranean before concluding in Civitavecchia, Italy, on May 26.
Crystal Serenity has been associated with luxury cruising since entering service in 2003 and today represents a rare survivor from the original Crystal Cruises fleet. Built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, she was introduced as the larger companion to Crystal Symphony and developed a following through extended international itineraries, World Cruises, and a comparatively spacious passenger-to-ship ratio. Her career changed dramatically when the original Crystal Cruises ceased operations in 2022, but the ship was subsequently acquired along with the Crystal brand by A&K Travel Group. Following an extensive 2023 refurbishment that substantially reduced her passenger capacity and redesigned much of her accommodation, Crystal Serenity returned to service for a new generation of Crystal voyages. Her January 2026 departure from Los Angeles demonstrated the continued importance of long World Cruises to the ship more than two decades after she first entered service.

History and Features
Construction and Entry Into Service:
Crystal Serenity was built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique at Saint-Nazaire, France, and entered service in 2003.
She joined Crystal Symphony in the Crystal Cruises fleet and was considerably larger than her fleetmate.
Rather than maximizing passenger capacity, Crystal emphasized passenger space, service, dining, and longer international itineraries.
World Cruises became an important part of the ship’s schedule, continuing a tradition of extended global voyages that remained central to Crystal’s identity.
Design and Features:
Crystal Serenity was designed as a relatively spacious luxury cruise ship, with large public areas and a lower passenger density than many contemporary vessels of similar size.
Her public spaces include multiple restaurants, lounges, entertainment venues, a spa, fitness facilities, pools, and extensive open decks.
The ship became particularly associated with longer voyages and World Cruises, where the amount of public space and variety of onboard facilities were important for passengers spending extended periods aboard.
Following her 2023 refurbishment, Crystal lists the ship at just 740 guests with 402 ocean-view rooms and suites.
The reduced capacity provides what Crystal describes as an industry-leading space-to-guest ratio and reflects the repositioning of the ship following the relaunch of the Crystal brand.
Crystal Cruises and the 2022 Closure:
Crystal Serenity spent most of her career with the original Crystal Cruises, becoming one of the company’s best-known ships.
Crystal’s operations were disrupted in early 2022 following the financial collapse of its parent company, Genting Hong Kong.
The original cruise operation ceased and the future of both Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony became uncertain.
The Crystal brand and its two ocean ships were subsequently acquired by A&K Travel Group, beginning a new chapter for both vessels.
Rather than replacing the ships, the new ownership chose to extensively refurbish and return them to service.
The 2023 Refurbishment and Return to Service:
Crystal Serenity underwent a major refurbishment at Fincantieri in Trieste, Italy, before returning to service.
Accommodation was extensively redesigned, with larger suites and guest rooms contributing to a substantial reduction in total passenger capacity.
Public spaces and technical systems were also renewed while many familiar features associated with the ship were retained.
Sea trials were successfully completed in July 2023.
The revitalized Crystal Serenity returned to passenger service from Marseille on July 31, 2023, marking the relaunch of Crystal under A&K Travel Group ownership.
Service:
Throughout her career, Crystal Serenity has operated worldwide itineraries rather than being tied primarily to a single regional market.
Her voyages have included Europe, Alaska, the Caribbean, South America, Asia, Australia, the Pacific, and extended global itineraries.
World Cruises have remained particularly important to the ship and the Crystal brand.
Following her 2023 return to service, Crystal Serenity resumed the long international voyages that had characterized much of her earlier career.
The ship’s comparatively small current passenger capacity and extensive public spaces make her particularly suited to voyages lasting several weeks or months.
Los Angeles – January 11, 2026:
January 11, 2026, marked the beginning of Crystal Serenity’s 2026 World Cruise from Los Angeles.
The complete voyage was scheduled for 135 nights, ending at Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, on May 26.
Crystal planned visits to 72 destinations across 27 countries, including 12 overnight stays.
From Los Angeles, the ship began by crossing the Pacific toward Hawaii and the islands of the South Pacific.
The voyage continued through destinations including French Polynesia, New Zealand and Australia before heading north into Asia.
Later portions of the itinerary crossed through the Middle East and Mediterranean, with the ship scheduled to reach Monaco in time for the Grand Prix before completing the World Cruise in Italy.
Crystal also offered the opening Los Angeles-to-Papeete portion separately as an 18-night voyage from January 11 through January 29.
For full World Cruise passengers, however, Los Angeles represented the starting point of a journey lasting more than four months and spanning much of the globe.
The departure demonstrated the continued role of Los Angeles as a starting point for major Pacific and around-the-world passenger voyages.
Legacy:
Crystal Serenity has now served under two eras of the Crystal brand, surviving the end of the original company and returning following new ownership and extensive investment.
Her 2023 reconstruction significantly altered her passenger accommodations while retaining a ship that had already developed a strong following during nearly two decades of earlier service.
Her continued use for World Cruises preserves one of the defining aspects of her original career.
More than 20 years after entering service, Crystal Serenity continues to operate long-distance international voyages rather than being limited to short regional cruise programs.
