CELEBRITY SUMMIT
Summit (Celebrity Cruises), now known as Celebrity Summit, departs Los Angeles Harbor on April 9, 2006. Built in France and introduced in 2001, the Millennium-class cruise ship was still sailing under her original name when these photographs were taken.
RMS QUEEN MARY 2
Queen Mary 2 (Cunard) entered Long Beach Harbor on February 23, 2006, for her historic first meeting with RMS Queen Mary. Thousands gathered around the harbor and hundreds of boats took to the water as Cunard’s modern flagship approached her legendary namesake, bringing together two generations of transatlantic ocean liners during Queen Mary 2’s first visit to the U.S. West Coast.
QUEEN ELIZABETH 2
Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth 2 arrived in Los Angeles on January 23, 2006, during her annual World Cruise. Illuminated at Berth 93 that evening, the legendary ocean liner was nearly 37 years into her Cunard career and less than three years from retirement, yet still making long-distance voyages around the world.
MARCO POLO
Marco Polo (Orient Lines) is seen at Geiranger, Norway, on July 15, 2004, photographed from Queen Mary 2 during our Northern Europe cruise. Originally built as the Soviet liner Aleksandr Pushkin, the classic passenger ship shared the dramatic setting of Geirangerfjord with the new Cunard liner during QM2’s inaugural season.
RMS QUEEN MARY 2
On Day 3 of our July 2004 Northern Europe cruise, Queen Mary 2 (Cunard Line) anchored off South Queensferry on July 13 during her inaugural year. Positioned in the Firth of Forth near the historic Forth Bridge, the call provided access to Edinburgh while offering distinctive views of Cunard's new flagship against one of Scotland's best-known maritime and engineering landscapes.
ELATION
In April 2002, we traveled aboard Carnival Elation (Carnival Cruise Line) on a seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise from Los Angeles. The voyage included visits to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, and Cabo San Lucas, documenting the Fantasy-class ship during her years of regular West Coast service.
VIKING SERENADE
In January 2001, we sailed aboard Viking Serenade (Royal Caribbean International) on a three-day cruise from Los Angeles to Ensenada, Baja California. These photographs show the ship docked during our visit, toward the end of her years operating short cruises from Southern California.
VIKING SERENADE
Our cruise aboard Viking Serenade (Royal Caribbean International) brought us to Ensenada, Baja California, in March 2000. This photograph shows the ship docked during our visit, when she was a familiar part of Royal Caribbean’s short-cruise service from Los Angeles.
QUEEN ELIZABETH 2
Queen Elizabeth 2 (Cunard Line) crossed the North Atlantic from Southampton to New York on Voyage 1160, April 14–20, 1999. The crossing formed the final leg of QE2’s 1999 World Cruise and was also our honeymoon, making this voyage both an important part of the Ocean Liner Photography archive and a personal record of travel aboard one of the most celebrated ocean liners of the twentieth century.
